Week 27 of your Pregnancy
Congratulations, at the end of this week, you will have reached the end of the second trimester.
Your baby’s brain and lungs are starting to mature and he/she begins to recognize the rhythm and sound of your voice.
Your active little one now weighs around 2 pounds or just under 1 kg and is around 14.5 inches or 36.8 cm tall.
What to Expect
As your tummy expands, your uterus lifts upwards and outwards, pushing on your ribs. You may find yourself getting breathless, because your baby is pressing up towards your lungs.
Tips for Week 27
As you are now on the home stretch, as a first time mom-to-be you are probably feeling nervous about labor and birth.
Attending childbirth classes can relieve this anxiety and stress and give you more control over the process.
Now is also a good time to learn the signs of preterm labor (when contractions start before the 37th week of pregnancy). Some signs of preterm labor include:
- Contractions that occur at regular intervals, that are consistent, or that become more intense.
- Contractions associated with lower back pain, cramps, or other pain.
- Changes in your vaginal discharge that include spotting or bleeding or leaking fluid.
If you experience any of these symptoms, call your doctor or midwife.
Discuss cord blood banking with your midwife or doctor – what it involves, benefits and procedure.
